John W. Robe, oldest living graduate of Indiana Asbury University and one of the last survivors of the Union Army of the Civil War living in Putnam Co., died Tuesday morning at his home in Greencastle. He was born in Morgan Co. 94 years ago, the son of William Robe. His mother was a cousin of Governor St. John of Kansas. William Robe, his father, met a tragic death during the early part of the Civil War at the hands of enemies. He married Sarah M. Stevenson, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alexander Stevenson, October 5, 1870. She died October 27, 1914. On September 22, 1915, he married Mrs. Anna Gillespie Stauiwalt, she survives him.
